BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The 24th annual Holiday Lights on the Lake at Lakemont Park is set to open on Friday, Nov. 13 and will run through Jan. 3. Admission is $13 for a standard passenger vehicle.
Lakemont Park general manager Melanie Schildt says everything will light up at 6pm for people to enjoy until it all shuts off at 10 p.m. Schildt says the drive-through light display is a great was for friends and families to celebrate the holiday season safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The music is upbeat, it’s fun, it’s inspiring and we know people are looking for ways to get out and get out safely. And you’re in your car with your family your friends and you’re coming through and just enjoying all of the aspects of the holiday season,” said Schildt.
The 51-acre drive-through light display is made up of over 150 displays sponsored by local businesses. Every year a portion of the proceeds from those sponsorships goes to a local nonprofit through the parks “Lighting up Lives,” fund. This year the money will be given to the Arc of Blair County.
Schildt says that Santa and his reindeer will be there again this year singing your favorite holiday tunes and following COVID-19 safety protocols at Santa’s Village.
If you want to visit Santa’s Village Schildt says you need to wear a mask and only a limited number of people will be let in at a time to allow for social distancing. Photos with Santa are still on this year but Schildt says you have to say outside of his sleigh and won’t be able to sit next to him.
Guests will have the chance to win $1,000 when they participate in this years game, “What are Santa’s Favorite Toys?,” where they’ll write what they find as they drive through the light display, organizers say.
There will also be a new Holiday market that Schildt says will run from Dec. 5 and 12 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“We’re going to have a few local vendors, a food truck will be here, and we’re actually going to bring Santa Claus outside those days for some social distanced photos. But a special treat Mrs. Claus will be with him those days,” said Schildt
