Lori Vallow Daybell returns to jail to await sentencing

Lori Vallow Daybell has been transferred back to the Madison County Jail to await sentencing after being found guilty on all counts.

Judge Boyce noted that a trial of this size and scope can take some time for a sentencing investigation to be concluded, saying it would likely be two to three months before the sentencing hearing is scheduled.

Chad Daybell is still awaiting a trial date. A pretrial hearing in early May appears to indicate a trial won't begin until mid-2024.

Prosecutors in Arizona have filed notice with Idaho that they intend to try Lori Vallow Daybell for the murder of Charles Vallow in Arizona in June 2019, now that the trial in Idaho has concluded. Once she has been sentenced, preparations for her trial in Arizona will commence.

Charles Vallow was shot and killed, reportedly by Alex Cox, Lori's brother, while trying to pick up JJ Vallow for school. Alex and Lori told police that it was in self-defense but evidence uncovered after the fact indicates that was not the whole story.

Alex told investigators that he shot Charles twice to stop him from charging at him with a bat. Investigators found that one round struck Charles while he was standing, however, the second round was fired straight down into his gut while he was on the floor. The bullet was recovered from underneath his body.
