'Taken Way Too Soon': Teen Killed By Tractor Trailer In Palmer; Support Swells For Her Family

Mary Collins, of South Hadley, was leaving Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School around 2:20 p.m. when the truck crashed into the driver's side of her 1998 Chevrolet Suburban on Sykes Street, authorities said.

The truck driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police. Authorities have not released his information or what led to the crash.

Following the wreck, a family friend created a fundraising campaign for the Collins family. The GoFundMe has raised more than $23,000 in two days from 275 donors as of Friday afternoon.

"Mary was a bright, smart, sarcastic, beautiful, caring, young lady who was taken way too soon," the campaign reads.

Mary's family said they were overwhelmed by the show of support.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the constant messages, calls, food deliveries, donations, prayers and caring thoughts and words that are being sent to our family. We can not express in words how grateful we are for the overwhelming support from our family friends and community. Just know in our hearts that we truly appreciate all the help everyone has given us in this difficult time. Again thank you so much.

Funeral arraignments for Mary Collins have not been released.
